We have a vacancy for the position of: FORENSIC COLLISION INVESTIGATOR (Full or Part-Time)

 

Introduction

We are currently recruiting Forensic Collision Investigators to undertake a wide range of investigations in relation to road traffic and vehicle related incidents and accidents including vehicle component failures. The successful candidate(s) will be required to prepare accurate technical advice, sometimes at short notice, regarding the cause of the incident or accident and assistance with determining liability. Our clients include solicitors, insurance brokers, loss adjusters and the Police Forces throughout the UK.

The Nature of the Work

The role requires thorough technical investigation at all stages of the process, from initially collecting the evidence at the scene to preparing the final technical report and ultimately, giving expert evidence in Court.   

You will have the opportunity to investigate a range of differing collisions and incidents, relating to transportation, which will require you to apply scientific and engineering principles. The unpredictable nature and location of our work will see you travel throughout the UK and potentially internationally.

You will regularly be required to conduct inspections or analysis at the location of an incident or collision, with a view to obtaining pertinent evidence. In addition, you will also be required to attend recovery type premises to examine vehicles, vehicle components and any other physical evidence. On occasion, the job may require for a vehicle component to be removed in a systematic manner, to allow for further analysis to be carried out in relation to a potential failure.

There are many aspects to the role, some of which include:

  • Record and gather the available physical evidence at a locus.

  • Examine all classes of vehicle and any vehicle related components.

  • Prepare scene plans.

  • Review CCTV, Tachograph Data, Vehicle Electronic Data, etc.

  • Review documentation in relation to the collision or incident, which may include other technical expert reports.

  • Provide the client with timely preliminary verbal and/or written advice as instructed and in a form that can be readily understood by a layperson.

  • Prepare concise impartial reports for Court proceedings.

  • Review published research, regulations and relevant standards.

  • Attend client meetings to discuss the investigation of a collision or incident.

  • Meet and discuss a collision, or incident, with experts appointed by the other involved parties as part of the litigation process.

  • Providing expert witness evidence in Court, which may involve being questioned in depth by a legal Counsel.

 

Our Requirements

The Forensic Collision Investigator position is technically demanding and challenging, requiring a good understanding of scientific and engineering principles and their associated application within the discipline.

Ideally you will have, or be:

  • Attained a good honours degree in an engineering or an appropriate science-based subject, such as physics.

  • Gained at least 10 years of experience in the related field.

  • Experienced in the undertaking of technical investigations.

  • Good practical ability, supported by a strong academic record.

  • Self-motivated and be able to work effectively under pressure.

  • Good aptitude and enthusiasm for problem solving.

  • Must have the ability to communicate technical issues in a clear and concise manner, verbally and in writing.

  • Be prepared to work unpredictable hours, as and where the work demands.

  • Be prepared to provide expert witness evidence in Court when required.
